In the modern approaches to the quantization of the gravitational field it remains of fundamental importance to consider functional methods with the associated Feynman "sum over space-time histories". In the attempts of defining and evaluating the transition amplitudes, with applications to field theory and cosmology, it is very helpful to consider the Euclidean formulation, with the related analysis of elliptic operators on Riemannian manifolds. This point of view has led in the past to important developments on gravitational instantons, and in recent times to new ideas in quantum cosmology, and, in particular, to applications in black hole physics, wormholes and path-integral schemes. Spectral geometry is the branch of modern mathematics which studies the relation between the spectrum of a given elliptic operator and the geometrical and topological properties of the associated Riemannian manifolds.

The aim of the Meeting is to bring together theoretical physicists and mathematicians working on quantum field theory, quantum gravity and global analysis, and to present the latest developments in these research areas.
The main topics will be therefore as follows.

(i) Path-integral approach to quantum gravity and quantum field theory.

(ii) Spectral geometry and spectral asymptotics.

The Meeting will be held at the Department of Physical Sciences of the University of Naples and at the Naples Section of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN)
